Why we need your prescription?

As of February 4th, 2004; a new Federal law was enacted by the 108th Congress of the United States of America and entitled "The Fairness to Contact Lens Consumers Act” (H.R.3140). This law helps provide the consumer with new sources for buying contact lenses at more competitive pricing and the convenience of shopping online.

The law covers several areas and among them it provides for the following;

1. Patient Right to their Contact Lens Prescription Copy -
Sec. 2 (a) (1) – States; your eye doctor, whether or not requested by the patient, must release your prescription to you upon the completion of your contact lens fitting.

2. Contact Lens Seller Must perform Prescription Verification –
Sec. 4 (a) (1) – States; Sellers may sell contact lens only in accordance with a contact lens prescription for the patient that is either presented by the patient to the seller directly or by facsimile or verified with the eye doctor.

How is a Prescription Verified?

There are several ways we can verify your prescription;

1. You can fax us a copy of your valid prescription to our toll free number at;
1-866-275-8660
We DO NOT need to contact your provider. If you have your valid prescription handy, you can fax or email it to us to expedite your order. If we receive a clear & valid fax or scan of your prescription, your doctor will not be contacted.

2. You can scan and e-mail us a copy of your valid prescription to;
CustomerService@ShopLens.com
We DO NOT need to contact your provider. If you have your valid prescription handy, you can fax or email it to us to expedite your order. If we receive a clear & valid fax or scan of your prescription, your doctor will not be contacted.

3. You can provide us with your Doctor's name (or office name) and phone number (or preferably fax number) and we can contact them for you to get verification.

4. If you don’t know your Doctor’s phone number, you may provide us with the city and state and we will attempt to locate them for you to verify the Rx.

The law requires your eye care doctor to respond to our verification request within 8 business hours. If no response is received to our fax within the time frame, we are to understand that your prescription is valid and your order is clear to proceed.

International Orders - Non US address shipped orders do not require verification and we will be happy to process and ship international orders without prescription.
This information along with your prescription is kept private and is only shared with your doctor to allow us to verify your prescription. For more information on how your information is kept secure, please see our Privacy Policy.
